Edres J. Abshire

Abbeville - A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Edres J. Abshire, 85, will be held at 3:00PM Thursday, December 22, 2016 at St. Theresa Catholic Church with Fr. Greg Cormier officiating.  Interment will follow in Abshire Cemetery in Meaux.

Visitation will be at David Funeral Home of Abbeville, Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 6:00PM until 9:00PM, with a recitation of the rosary at 7:00PM and will resume on Thursday, December 22, 2016 from 12:00PM until service time.

Edres, born in Meaux and a resident of Abbeville passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016 in his residence.  He retired from the Louisiana National Guard as Chief Warrant Officer IV after many years of service.  He loved his co-workers and comrades of the 156th Infantry.  He had a deep and profound respect for the principles of freedom and the necessary role of a military supported by the US citizenry.  He was passionate about horticulture and was an avid reader of American and World War II History.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gloria Lee Abshire of Abbeville; his son, Samuel K. Abshire, MD and wife Camille of Homer; three grandsons, Andrew Abshire and wife Katie of Shreveport, Ben Abshire and wife Amanda, and Pat Abshire and wife Micah both of Homer; five great grandchildren, Asa, Annette, McRae, Will, Betty; numerous nieces and nephews who supported him during his illness.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Odilon and Eunice Suire Abshire;  sister, Shirley Abshire Fontenot.

Serving as his pallbearer will be Andrew Abshire, Ben Abshire, Pat Abshire, Jim Guidry, Austin Guidry, and Ronald LeBlanc.
