Iris "Taunte Koolou" Poirrier

Coteau – Funeral services will be conducted for Iris “Taunte Koolou” Poirrier (Gary), 93, at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 23, 2016, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church with Fr. Brian Harrington officiating. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Thursday, December 22, 2016, from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM and resume on Friday, December 23, 2016, at 8:00 AM until 12:30 PM and a rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Thursday at 7:00 PM.

A native of Youngsville and a resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Poirrier passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at 9:44 PM at Iberia Medical Center. She loved cooking, going to the casino, listening to French Music, dancing, working with word search puzzles and playing Solitaire and Bouraee. She loved helping others, visiting nursing homes and watching mass and rosaries on TV. She was a well known Traiteur for all of Acadiana and healed many headaches, sun strokes and shingles etc.  She would never turn anyone down for prayer or treatment of their ailment. For many years she prayed the rosary in French for funerals. She loved her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren and attending family gatherings.

She is survived by her son, Bob Paul Gary and his wife Candelera of New Iberia; her daughters, Mary Ann Silva and her husband Bobby, Rita Migues and her husband Edward Stefan, all of New Iberia, Florence Persilver and her husband Marty, Sr. of Campti and Angela “Boo-Boo” Theriot and her husband Larry of New Iberia; her sister, Mrs. Willa Poirrier of New Iberia; her daughter-in-law, Melissa Gary Deshotel of New Iberia; twenty grandchildren and thirty-eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Gary; her parents, Ulysse Poirrier and Anita Toutcheque Poirrier; her sons, John and Alton Joseph Gary; her brothers, Harrington, Whitney, Ernest, Everson, Eddie, Harrison, Larris and Harris Poirrier and her sisters, Mrs. Morris (Inez) Dutile and Mrs. Rene (Edia) Viator.

Pallbearers will be Bob Gary, Larry Theriot, Edward Stefan Migues, Gina Migues, Bob Gary, Jr. and Bobby Silva.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sean Theriot, Alton Gary, Jr., Joshua Theriot, Marty Persilver, Jr., Brandon Persilver and Edwin Guilbeau, Jr.
