Forrest Jack Champagne

Jeanerette – Funeral services will be conducted for Forrest Jack “Jackie” Champagne, 70, at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 22, 2017, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Deacon Theo Landry officiating. Burial will follow in Beau Pre Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 22, 2017, from 9:30 AM until 1:50 PM and a rosary will be prayed in the funeral home at 11:00 AM.

A native and resident of Jeanerette, Mr. Champagne passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017, at 11:53 AM at his residence.

Mr. Champagne was a member of the United States Army. He did a one year tour of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Mr. Champagne was with Company A 327th Infantry Division and 1st Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division. During his year in Vietnam, Mr. Champagne was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal with “V” Device in the Republic of Vietnam for heroism in the connection with military operations against a hostile force. Champagne distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions, near Dak To, Republic of Vietnam. He was also awarded medal for Meritorious Services in Vietnam. He received the Combat Infantry Badge for participation in combat.

Mr. Champagne was a member of the Jeanerette VFW Post 10827.

He worked in the oil and gas industry for 50 plus years.

He is survived by his wife, Karma Duplantis Champagne of Jeanerette; his daughter, Laurie Champagne Outlaw and her husband Dr. Kit Outlaw of Mobile, AL; his grandchildren, Caroline and Amelia Outlaw; his sisters, Sandra C. Torres of Franklin and Carol C. Bernard and her husband James of St. Martinville and Fay C. Maraist and her husband Steve of Carencro; his brother, Ray C. Champagne and his wife Cindy of Coteau and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Shedrick J. Champagne and Beatrice Guidry Champagne; his father-in-law, Reilus and his mother-in-law, Nadine Boutte Duplantis and his brother-in-law, Aaron M. Duplantis.

Pallbearers will be Ray Champagne, Cameron Champagne, Colby Champagne, Charlie Champagne, Steve Maraist, Harold Patrick Dugas and Dr. Kit Outlaw.

Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Morris, Daryl Choate, Earl Robin and James Bernard.
