Russell Ruiz, Jr.

Loreauville- A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Mr. Russell Ruiz Jr., age 84, on
Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Loreauville with Father Barry Crochet officiating the services. . Internment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Loreauville.

A native of Jeanerette and a resident of Loreauville, Mr. Russell passed away at his residence on Tuesday, February 7,2017 at 11:20 AM. Russell was a loyal man who was married to his beautiful wife for 64 years and  gave 35 honorable years to the New Iberia District of Texaco where he would retire. He grew up in the Atchafalaya Basin and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He really took pride in the preservation of the Basin for future generations. He was kind and compassionate and always will to help anyone regardless of his or her situation.  He served as an Alderman for the village of Loreauville. He was a member of NRA and proudly believed in the second amendment.  Mr. Russell  took pride in his community and Loreauville High Schools Athletic Association. He also hauled hundreds of loads of dirt for the football field at Loreauville High School. He was a supporter of "The Rusty Ruiz Memorial Foundation", and his family cherishes the many memories of the vacations to the pan handle of Florida.  He was also a great cool of some of the wonderful Cajun recipes of his family.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Vivian Ann Ruiz of Loreauville, his son Gregory John Ruiz of Jeanerette, a daughter Charlene Ruiz Picheloup  and her husband James E. Picheloup II of New Iberia, a daughter Melissa Ruiz Drescher and her husband Edwin Drescher of Prairieville, grandchildren Racheal Renee Ruiz Washington, Victor Drescher, Pamela Patrice Patin, Briana Leigh Drescher, James Edward Picheloup III, and Andrew James Picheloup, great-grand children Deja Renee Ruiz, Deon Washington, Aubrey Renee Menard, Killey Lee Menard Jr., Brooke Elizabeth Drescher, Emily Claire Dreshcer, Reagan Annette Redmon; brothers Woodrow Ruiz, Art Ruiz, and Cordell Ruiz, a special sister in law Katherine "Kitty" Legnon Ruiz.

He is preceded in death by his grandson Rusty Robert Ruiz, his father Russell John Ruiz Jr. and his mother Valerie Angelle Ruiz.

Upholding the honor as pallbearers are his 6 grandchildren.

David Funeral Home of Loreauville, 118 Main St. (337-229-8338) is handling the
arrangements.
