Emus J. Borel

Loreauville – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Emus J. Borel, 88, on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 1:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Jo, Pastor of St. Elizabeth, Coteau Holmes and Fr. Buddy Breaux as concelebrant officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will resume on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 8:00 AM until time of services. A recitation of the Rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 6:30 PM .

A native of Jeanerette and resident of Loreauville, Emus passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 5:45 PM at Iberia Medical Center. First as a graduate of St. Joseph School in Jeanerette, he later attended trade school for carpentry. The majority of his career was spent as owner of Thrifty Shop Grocery in Loreauville with his wife, and he was an avid cattleman. He served in the Navy in World War II on the USS Antietam as a tail gunner on a torpedo bomber in the Pacific Theatre. He also served in the Philippines, Guam, New Zealand and Australia.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rowena Chataignier Borel of Loreauville; seven children, Hansel Borel (wife Darlene), Basil Borel (wife Gail), Phil Borel (wife Rhonda), Chad Borel, Gwindl Borel, Trini Foti (husband Carlo) all of Loreauville and Max Borel (wife Monica) of Mandeville; brother, Harold Borel (wife Barbara) of New Iberia; sister, Mary Alice Foco (husband Ronald) of Lafayette; brother-in-law, Eddie Hebert;  grandchildren, Trisha, Dylan, Amy, Beau, Toni, B.J., Becky, Chuck, Jake, Jim, Melanie, Fallon, Shelby, Jewel, Julien, Ruby, Lucy and Anthony; ten great-grandchildren and many friends.

He was preceded by his parents; James Bores and Inez Perez; sisters, Emily Leblanc, and Linda Hebert; eight step-brothers, Dozie, Edward, Lawrence, Felix, George, James, William and Raul Borel; four step-sisters, Georgette, Olive, Alena and Idel.

Pallbearers will be Hansel and Beau Borel, Basil Borel, Phil Borel, Chad Borel, Carlo Foti, Max and Julien Borel. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons, Dylan, B.J., Chuck, Jake and Jim.
