Father Ralph J. Landry

New Iberia- Reverend Ralph J. Landry, 82, went home to be with the Lord at 12:58 AM on Monday, March 6, 2017 at Iberia Medical Center.

News of his death has been greeted with sadness by people throughout the diocese and the community. He was a retired priest for the Diocese of Lafayette. His commitment to his faith and his gentle devotion to the people entrusted to his care will always be remembered.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Fr. Ralph and will begin at 3:00 PM on Friday, March 10, 2017 at St. Peters Catholic Church in New Iberia. The Most Reverend Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel will be the principal celebrant and Most Reverend Michael Jarrell, Bishop Emeritus of Lafayette, will be the con-celebrant.  The homily will be deliverd by Reverend Herbert Bennerfield and Reverend Mr. Russell Hayes will be serving as Deacon of the Mass.  The interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017 at St Peters Catholic Church from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM with a recitation of the rosary at 1:00 PM led by Deacon Russell Hayes.

He was born on May 11,1934 in New Iberia, La. and the is the son of Albert J. Landry Sr. and Clara David Landry.

Father Landry served as priest in various parishes of the diocese during his 54 years of ministry including, Our Lady Queen of Heaven, Lake Charles, St. Ann of Mamou, St. Joseph of Iota, St. Michael of Crowley, Our Lady of the Lake of Lake Arthur, St. Catherine of Arnauville,  St. Paul and St. Joseph of Elton, St. Edward of Richard, St. Thomas of Savoy, St. Joseph of Plaissance, St. Ann of Frilot Cove, St. Anthony of Krotz Springs, St. Martin de Porres and St. Peter and Paul in Scott, Immaculate Conception and Holy Trinity of  Washington.

He leaves many fond memories with family, friends, and parishioners and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by an "adopted" son, John R. Landry,  many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Fr. Landry was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Sr. and Clara David Landry, four brothers, Albert  Landry Sr., Henry Landry Sr., Earl Landry and Ernest Landry Sr.; his three sisters; Wanda Landry Cambre, Albertena Landry Price and Rosemary Landry Stevens.

Upholding the honor as pallbearers will be Father Cedric Sonnier, Father Buddy Breaux, Father Nathan Comeaux, Deacon Keith Duhon, Deacon Tim Martantel and Deacon Durk Viator.
