Michael J. Champagne Sr.

New Iberia – Michael Joseph Champagne, Sr., 67, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017, at 4:15 AM at Iberia Medical Center.  At his request, no service will be held. Family and close friends will gather at his home in New Iberia to celebrate his life.

He was born in Franklin and was a resident of New Iberia. While attending high school, Michael decided to join the U. S. Navy and finished his education while in the Navy. He then worked in the oil field of 40 plus years, last of which he was a hotshot driver for Sam Broussard Trucking.

He enjoyed any form of outdoor living, especially camping, fishing and his passion in life was cooking for his family.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Shelley Johnson Champagne of New Iberia; his children, Michael J. Champagne, Jr. and his wife Mechelle and Monica Champagne and her fiance’ Kirby; his step-children, Cheri Verret and her husband Pat, Brent Verret and his wife Josey, Shane Verret and his wife Michelle and Brooke Doucet and her husband Chad; his brothers, Bill Champagne and Keith Champagne; his sisters, Evelyn Derouen and Paula Derouen and his grandchildren, Morgan, Amber, Gage, Blaize, Matthew, Alex, Shane, Kylan, Evan, Blake, Trey, Taylor, Dawson and Ryley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sterling Champagne, Sr. and Anna Robicheaux Champagne; his brothers, Sterling Champagne, Jr. and Lynn Champagne and his sister, Sharon Rose Champagne.
