Lydia – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Miss Phala A. Haydel on Friday, June 9, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Father Gregory Chauvin and Deacon Gerry Bourg officiating. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Charenton.
Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, June 9, 2017, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service, with a recitation of the rosary by Deacon Bourg at 10:00 a.m. Musical selections will be provided by Karen Guidry.
Miss Haydel was a native of Adeline who grew up on Weeks Island and was a long-time resident of Lydia. She passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2017, at 6:15 a.m. at a local healthcare facility.
She was a graduate of Franklin High School and attended Spencer Business College. Miss Haydel retired from Morton Chemical Company as a payroll clerk and also worked for Morton Salt Company.
Miss Haydel enjoyed music and vacationing with family, especially their annual trips to Colorado. She was an avid fan of LSU sports and was a long-time football season ticket holder.
Miss Haydel is survived by one sister, Ida May Haydel Belt of St. Louis, Missouri; one aunt, Eloise J. Verret; and cousins, Mary Fay Charpentier, Marcelle Simpson, Pat Wiese, Darnella McElduff, Catherine Giardina, Kenneth Verret, Bronwyn Jolet and Ingrid Jolet.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Jeanne Verret Haydel.
Serving as pallbearers are Stefan Jolet, Alex Jolet and Kenneth Verret.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Maison Teche Nursing Center for their care and support during her stay. We also want to thank the staff of Bridgeway Hospice, especially her nurse, Erin Viator.
