Karen Hazelwood Duplantis

Youngsville – Funeral Services for Mrs. Karen Hazelwood Duplantis, 69, will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, June 30, 2017 at David Funeral Chapel of Lafayette with Rev. Steve Horn officiating.  Interment will be held at a later Date.

Visitation will be held at David Funeral Home of Lafayette on Friday, June 30, 2017 from 10:00AM until the time of the services.

Karen was born in Alexandria, LA to parents Reverend Louis Calvin Hazelwood and Marie Foreman Hazelwood. She married her loving husband Michael DuPlantis Sr. on July 26, 1969, and they enjoyed 48 wonderful years together, until his death on April 30, 2017. Karen was known for her zest and joy of life, no matter what physical limitations she may have had. She loved her family and friends with a full, fierce, and forgiving heart. She was a generous host, and cooked with love.  Anyone around her knew that she was sure to make you laugh, smile, and have more food than you could ever eat. Music surrounded her, whether it was her piano playing, singing or listening to what she referred to as “God’s reminder that there is something else besides us in the universe.”She was a successful office manager with Gaylord Bush Seafood Brokers for over 15 years and left a legacy within the seafood industry that lasts until this day.

She is survived by her children, MichaelL. DuPlantis Jr., Christopher M. DuPlantis, Donovan D. DuPlantis and Scott L. Dunlap; Brothers Richard Hazelwood and Spouse Vicki, Dwight Hazelwood and Spouse Debra, Dale Hazelwood and former spouseAnita Hazelwood; Sister Jocelyn Hazelwood Donlon and Spouse Jon; Grandchildren Steffen DuPlantis, Lindsay DuPlantis, Brandon DuPlantis, Christopher W. DuPlantis, Makayla DuPlantis, Mason DuPlantis; Great-Grandchildren Aden Stafford, Alaya Breaux.; and fourteen beloved nieces and nephews, as well as their children.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years Michael L DuPlantis Sr., her parents Rev. Louis Calvin Hazelwood and Marie Forman Hazelwood, and her nephew Louis Calvin Hazelwood.
