Leona Thibodeaux

New Iberia – Funeral services will be held for Leona Louviere Genest Thibodeaux, 95, on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 10:00 AM at David Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Ed Degeyter as Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Patoutville, LA.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 8:00 AM until time of service. Praying of the Rosary will be held at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 in the funeral home.

Leona went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 4:10 AM at a local nursing facility. She was a native of Iberia Parish, born on August 17, 1921 at the Old Broussard Dairy Farm. She was a resident of New Iberia, Peebles, Weeks Island and Jeanerette. Leona was known for her generous heart, vegetable garden and flowers, as a care-giver for friends and family, her first-aid to neighborhood children. She loved to talk and tell her stories of the “Good Old Days.” Leona said Novena’s and prayed the Rosary for family, friends and all others in need of comfort.

She is survived by her daughters, Lorraine Genest Hebert of New Iberia, Sally Genest Sedita and her husband Joseph Sedita of Houston, TX; her sister, Gertrude Louviere Boudreaux and her husband Raymond Boudreaux of Baldwin, LA; sister-in-law, Lorraine Louviere Daigle of Baldwin; grandchildren, Kathryn Norris, Jr, Laurie, Johnny Jeanie; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Brian, Austin, Christian, Natalie, Vincent, Kyle, Abbey, Megan, Drew and Shay.

She was one of seven children of E’Lodias Louviere and Noelie Moore and was preceeded in death by her son, David Peter Genest; husbands, Lawrent L. Genest and Richard Thibodeaux; son-in-law, Norris D. Hebert, Sr. and her brothers, Morris Louviere, Envil Louviere, Andy Louviere, Wilson Louviere and Russell Louviere.

The family wishes to express appreciation to Heritage Manor South and Bridgeway Hospice. And a special thanks to Kathryn Hebert who made a home for her and gave her very special care to her grandmother with love and sacrifices and took the burden from the rest of the family.
