Irving Paul O'Brien, Jr.

New Iberia – Irving Paul O’Brien Jr., age 64, passed away peacefully at 11:21 AM on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Lafayette General Hospital. The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.

Irving Paul O’Brien Jr., “Dad” was a very generous and loving man.  He was a carpenter but felt as though he never worked a day in his life because he enjoyed working with his hands.  On a typical Sunday during football season, he would be in front of the TV watching his favorite team, the New Orleans Saints. His pass time was watching Netflix and snacking on sweets. He loved eating a good home cooked meal from his daughters and would never miss his sons BBQ.  His commitment to a sober living through AA was an inspiration to so many people. His ability to see beyond the downfalls of addiction into a person’s heart led him to impact and change so many lives. His commitment to the well being of his children will never be forgotten.  His passion in life was spending time with his children, grandchildren and family. Words cannot describe how much he was loved and will be missed dearly.

Survivors are Tammy Lynn Thibodeaux (Tammy Lou), Irving P. O’Brien III (Boobie), Katherine Ann Duke (Pow Wow), his grandchildren Christopher Paul Thibodeaux Jr., Blake Micheal Thibodeaux, Megan Marie Thibodeaux, Kambree Nichole O’Brien, Drake Anthony O’Brien, Kimberly Michelle Duke and Christian Ray Duke.

Preceded in death by his parents Irving P. O’Brien Sr. and Betty Hixon, brother Steve O’Brien, son in law Christopher Paul Thibodeaux Sr. and granddaughter Kristen Claire Duke.

David Funeral Home of New Iberia, 1101 Trotter St., is in charge of the arrangements.
