A native and lifelong resident of Loreauville, Mr. Claude passed away peacefully at Louisiana Extended Care on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 8:42 PM. After high school Mr. Claude would begin to follow his father’s footsteps and become a sugar cane farmer. However, he only did this for a short period of time until he would bravely respond to our great nations calling by joining the Army to serve in the Korean War. Upon returning home from the War, he continued farming and he would develop and master the skill of carpentry. Mr. Claude would use his skills in carpentry to finish the inside of the crew boats with Breaux’s Bay Craft of Loreauville for many years. He also built many homes and really took pride in working with wood. He enjoyed living off the land and bringing home the harvest from trolling for shrimp and seafood. As a family tradition, weekly you would find the Chastant family at multiple restaurants “eating out”. He had an ear for country music and a love for dancing. His family will always treasure the yearly vacations and quality time during their getaways. Later in life, he would develop a pass time for camping as he was a member of the Family Motor Coach Association and the Cruisin Cajun RV Group. His family will deeply miss him and hold treasured memories of him in their hearts.
He is survived by his loving companion of 14 years, Ms. Mary B. Meche of Scott, La., his son Gregory Chastant and wife Pam, his daughter Claudette Berard and husband Mark, his granddaughter Jamie Berard and husband Yohannes, his grandson Jason Chastant and wife Lindsay, his grandson Christopher Berard, and his Great-granddaughter Amelia Grace Chastant all of Loreauville.
