New Iberia – Memorial services for Hugh Harold Russell, III, 53, will be held at the New Iberia Church of Christ, 667 Charles Street on Saturday, August 12, 2017, at 10:30 AM with Minister Kenny Wright officiating. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 9:00 AM until the services.

Hugh was born in Oakdale (Allen Parish) on May 10, 1964, then came with his family to New Iberia in 1968.He graduated from NISH in 1983. During high school and after he graduated he worked as a deliveryman for Domino’s Pizza on Vicnaire St. for many years where he and his brother Kenneth were the first hired pizza deliverymen for Domino’s on Vicnaire. He went to auto mechanic school after graduation in 1986, at which time he went to work at Dronet’s and then to John Deere Tractor. After going to truck driving school in Florida he moved to Jeanerette and went to work for Chaney Lumber Company where he worked for 10 years.

Hugh was a Volunteer Firefighter for 30 years for Iberia Parish which included Belaire-Olivia-Morbihan Volunteer Fire Department and Jeanerette Volunteer Fire Department.

He was a member of the New Iberia Church of Christ. He loved going to church and being with his Christian Family, especially as a child and as a teenager.

Over the past five years, Hugh developed a love for adult pencil coloring, and actually became very good at it, that developed into a great talent in doing so, a talent that never came through until recent.

He is survived by his mother, Carolyn Prather Russell Dugas of New Iberia; his brother, Kenneth Patrick Russell of New Iberia and his finance Blenda McMillian of Deridder her family (Amy, Heather, Kaden and Aurora); his nephew, Brandon Michael Russell of New Iberia; his niece, Brittany Rene Russell, her friend Tori Boudreaux of Lydia; his step-sons, Jacob Gaspard and Joshua Gaspard and his wife Kristy; his step-grandchildren, Khloe, Kade and Karil all of Lydia;  his uncle, Joseph Henry Russell andhis wife Patricia of Westlake and family (Sandy, Jimmy, Curtis, Amanda, Jadyn, Natalyn, Camden, Jody, Kim, Lindsey, James, Danny, Christine, Grace, Michael and Lindsey); his aunt, Frances Prather Debuse and her her husband Phil and family (Kelly, Karlee, Kloe, Joe, Selena and JoJo) all of New Iberia; Donna Smith Rogers and her husband Jerry and family (Jo Wayne, Tiffany, Toi, Scott, Mercedes, Miley and Tucker) all of Oakdale.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hugh Harold Russell, Jr.; his paternal grandfather, Hugh Harold Russell, Sr.; his paternal grandmother, Mae Creel Russell; his maternal grandfather, Kenneth Karl Prather; his maternal grandmother, Eloise Holliday Prather; his step-maternal grandmother, Angelina Meyers Patton Prather; his aunt, Shirleen Russell Smith and a very special cousin, Robyn Russell Spell.

The family would like to express a very special thanks to Iberia Parish Fire Protection District # 1 for their love and support that was given to the family throughout this difficult time. You are all loved and greatly appreciated by this family.

Special thank you to the family of New Iberia Church of Christ who have been there and helped so much. Especially to the ministers, Kenneth Wright and Kenny Wayne Wright. Special thank you to Jacqueline Theriot (special Christian friend to Hugh), to Carroll Thomas and Janene Trahan, as well as all the others that took out time to go see him. To all of you, whether it be a visit, a card, a phone call or your prayers you always built him up emotionally and spiritually. Thank you and God bless you all.

Special thank you from the family to Hospice Compassus and staff, especially Dr. Burt Bujard, Brandi and Taylor and Belle Teche Nursing Home and staff. Thanks you all and God bless you all for the constant work that you did.

Special you to Dr. Robert Lewis and staff who took such great care of him for years prior to hospice. Dr. Caswell and staff that took such great care of him for a short time prior to hospice. Thank you and God bless you for the work you did.
