Howard J. Oliver

Erath –A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Howard “Black” Oliver, 93, will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Andre Metrejean officiating. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at David Funeral Home of Erath on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 9:00AM until the time of services.

A native of Sulphur and a long time resident of Erath, Mr. Black passed away at 10:40AM on Friday, September 22, 2017. He retired from Abbeville Lumber after 20 years of service. He loved to dance and listen to Cajun music. He also loved to volunteer his time with Abbeville General Hospital and he did so for the past 20 years retiring this year. He had great love for people of all walks of life and never met a stranger.

He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Jeanne Oliver; his two daughters, Josie Vollmer and her husband Jesse and Sandra Boudreaux and her husband Warren; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Oliver; his mother Eltexc Oliver; and his sister, Mabel Mouton.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dudley Romero Jr., Thomas Vollmer, Clay Vollmer, Jesse Vollmer, and Jacob Vollmer.

In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of Acadiana.

David Funeral Home of Erath at 209 East Putnum St. (337)937-0405) will be handling arrangements.
