Our Dear Lord and Savior took Helen Wickliffe Abernethy (Ritchey-Touchet), 55, into his arms on the day of Wednesday, February 28, 2018. Helen battled cancer and fought hard with the support of many close family and friends. She passed peacefully and was in the hands of caring people. Helen was a character to put it short. She always had a smile and a laugh as she shed love to everyone around her. Her friends and family knew that. She couldn’t go more than a couple of minutes out of the house without running into a customer from her barber shop. She treated all of her customers with respect and generosity. She always put herself last behind others, especially with her children. She never failed to be an outstanding mother and was always there for her loved ones, just as her mother before her. Helen never had a bad hair day or a bad sense of humor. Her love for animals was another one of Helen’s many great qualities. Each pet she took in had the lifestyle of a privileged human being, given names just as uniquely fitting as their personalities. Helen will be dearly missed among family and friends. We would like to give thanks for those who supported and helped her along the way, including the staff at Lafayette General Medical Center and The Carpenter House. A special thanks to Dr. Shahed Jameel for his compassionate guidance during this difficult journey.

Survivors include her companion Daniel Touchet of Lafayette; her close friend Jimmy Ritchey:  her two sons Ross Donlon Ritchey of New Orleans, and Lance Corporal Andre’ Turner Touchet currently stationed in Jacksonville, Fl; her two daughters Hannah Touchet Credeur and her husband Chandler Credeur, and Heather Touchet both of Carencro; and her brother William” Logan” Abernethy.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents Gene and Lucy West Abernethy.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ross Ritchey (son), Andre’ Touchet (son), Chad Petry (friend), Anthony Touchet (nephew), Jake Bourque (nephew), and Chandler Credeur (son-in-law).
