Lula Belle passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 04, 2018 at The Consolata Nursing Home. A native of Coteau Holmes and a resident of New Iberia, she was born on May 20, 1920, the second of six children, parents of the late Reneil and Denise Bonin Broussard. She was a member of Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church, attending Saturday evening masses for decades with Marcial serving as an usher.
In December 1939, Lula Belle married Marcial Tauzin and resided in New Iberia. She and Marcial were married for 73 years, farming sugarcane for over 40 years in Iberia Parish until his retirement in 1980. After retirement, their favorite hobbies together were gardening, raising farm animals and weekends celebrating their Cajun Culture.
Laissez les bon temps rouler – they loved dancng to that Cajun music at LaPoussiere in Breaux Bridge, Pangay’s and Club La Lou in New Iberia for years with friends on Saturday night’s and Sunday afternoons in the 70’s ande 80’s. She never missed a weekend and never missed a dance. Lula Belle had a deep love of family, especially grandchildren and great-grandchildren, even babysitting a great-grandson, Hunter, well into her 80’s and creating a bond that remained until the end.
We will have fond memories of Lula Belle’s crawfish boils, etouffees and all that great Cajun cooking in the Spring and Summer. Her Coteau Holmes birthplace, the connection to her Mom, Dad and brothers who brought over the rich Cajun Seafood Crabs and crawfish every week added to her enjoyment. Everyone who knew her realized how much she loved Coteau Holmes, her birthday cakes were special, the favorites of coconut and bananas.
She is survived by her son, Blaine Tauzin and wife Barbara of New Iberia; grandchildren, Shane Tauzin and wife Karen of New Iberia, Shane’s son Hunter and Karen’s son TJ Louviere and wife Hailey; great-granddaughter Ava of New Iberia, Amy Fenstermaker and daughter Jada of Youngsville; brothers, Oswald and Nolan Broussard; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcial Tauzin, parents Reneil and Denise Broussard; brothers Harold and Mayo Broussard; sister, Hazel Broussard.
Pallbearers will be Larry Broussard, Hugh Andre, Dennis Halphen, Kerry Neuville, Kenneth LeBlanc and Nathan Dugas.
Special thanks to Dr. Mike Alvarez for his care over the past 35 years, James Seneca NP, and the entire staff of the Consolata Home who called her “Lou” for their extraordinary attentive care for the past five years – we will be forever grateful.
