Chief Petty Officer Ralph Childers, Sr.

Visitation will be at David Funeral Home of Jeanerette on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 from 8:30 AM until time of service.
Husband and Father, Brother, Vietnam Veteran Career Military Serviceman, he died peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on the morning of May 16, 2018. A career serviceman, Chief Petty Officer Ralph C. Childers, Sr. joined the United States Navy in 1959 as a hospital corpsman before retiring 22 years later as a Chief Petty Officer. During the Vietnam War he served in Vietnam for 13 months from December 1969 to January 1971. Also, during his military service he was stationed at New Iberia, LA, Cherry Point, NC, Chelsea, MA, Camp Lejeune, NC, Paris Island, SC, Great Lakes, IL, Oakland, CA, Pensacola, FL, and Okinawa, Japan. Upon retirement from the military, he worked 18 years as a civil servant for the federal government on Cherry Point Air Station in Havelock, NC. In 2006, he moved with his wife to Jeanerette, LA. He also enjoyed his time as an outdoorsman, especially his love for fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Myrna Barrilleaux Childers of Jeanerette; ,; three children: Ralph Childers Jr. and his wife Ramona of Oregon, Keith Childers of Georgia, Susan Childers of Maine; two brothers: Paul Childers and his wife Jean of Missouri, David Childers of Massachusetts; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Marjorie Childers.
