Marguerite M. Hitter

New Iberia -  A Celebration of Life Mass will be held for Mrs. Marguerite M. Hitter, age 84, on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 3:00 PM. The mass will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus with Father Steve LeBlanc as the celebrant and Fr. Mario Romero as the concelebrant. Entombment will follow at St. Peters Cemetery.

Visitation will held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM.

Mrs. Marguerite was known for her nurturing heart and she was truly an incredible woman of faith. She was a devout Catholic that attended daily mass.  During her lifetime she was a member of various organizations and clubs. Some of them included the Garden Club of New Iberia, Mt. Carmel/Catholic High Mothers Club, the women’s Fortnightly Club as well as her weekly Bridge Group and Rosary Group. She was also the Secretary and Vice President of Alfred Hitter Inc. and Flotation Services Inc.  Mrs. Marguerite enjoyed gardening, and members of her family would even say that her plants were pampered. Walking and hours with her grandchildren were some of her favorite pastimes. She loved traveling and fishing with her husband, Alfred. Cypermort Point was the setting for many memories that the family will cherish in their hearts forever.

She is survived by her daughter Adrienne H. Detwiler and husband Robert of New Iberia, son Lawrence J. Hitter and wife Charlotte of New Iberia, daughter Melanie H. O’Brien and husband Michael of New Iberia, daughter Patrice H. Jones and husband Dr. John  Jones of Baton Rouge, her grandchildren David Detwiler, Amy Detwiler, Anne Detwiler, Kevin Hitter, Clare Hitter, Shani Lipari, Kelly O’Brien, Leslie Jones and Louis Jones; great-grandchildren are Kaden Myers, Kate Hitter, Braylee Hitter, Halli Detwiler; her brother Frank Minvielle, brother  Edward Minvielle, sister Harriet LaSalle.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years Mr. Alfred Edmond Hitter, her parents Mr. Leonard and Elma Schexnayder Minvielle, and her granddaughter Katie O’Brien.
