Jeanerette—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for George J. Derise, 85, on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church located at 1510 Church Street with Father Mark Derise, Pastor of St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church of Scott as Celebrant. Entombment will follow at Beau Pre Mausoleum located at 7603 Old Jeanerette Hwy with U. S. Naval Military Honors.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at David Funeral Home of Jeanerette located at 400 Provost Street from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM and will continue on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 8:00 AM until 10:45 AM. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at the funeral home at 6:00 PM on Sunday, July 29, 2018 with the Jeanerette Ladies Rosary Group.

George J. Derise was born on July 10, 1933 to Dorville and Natalie H. Derise. He was a native and lifelong resident of Jeanerette. He was the owner of George J. Derise Farms, Inc, a retired sugar cane farmer and was a member of the St. Mary Sugar Coop. He was a charter member of the Jeanerette Jaycees, a member of the American Legion where he served as both Commander and Vice-Commander of the Post. He was President and member of the St. Joe Booster Club, St. Joe Home and School Association, Royal Society of Gourmet, President of the JRDA, St. Mary Coop Board Member, member of Iberia Parish Parks and Recreation and Jeanerette Chamber of Commerce. George also was a veteran of the Korean Conflict with the U.S. Navy.

George is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Darlene Stansbury Derise; two daughters, Angelle D. Blanchard of Lafayette, Denise D. Naquin and husband Paul “Skipper” of Baldwin; two sons, Mark G. Derise and wife Ann of Lafayette, Bryan M. Derise and wife Louise of Lafayette; sister, Doris Lancon and husband Stanley; grandchildren, Tiffany Blanchard, Kevin Naquin and wife Raven, Kassie Roy and husband Matthew, Kade Naquin, Matthew Derise, Allison Derise, Natalie Derise, MD, Olivia Derise, Michelle Sonnier and husband Joey; two great-grandsons, Dyllan Blanchard and Decker Roy; four great-granddaughters, Calla Roy, Blythe Naquin, Kenley Sonnier and Kiley Sonnier.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorville Derise and Natalie H. Derise; brother Alton Derise, sisters Edvidge “Blackie” Trahan, Laddie “Betty” Green, and Valerie Legnon.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Roy, Kade Naquin, Matthew Derise, Kevin Naquin, Bryan Derise, Mark Derise and Paul “Skipper” Naquin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dyllan Blanchard, Steve Trahan, Glenn Legnon, Matt Lancon, Clay Lancon, Stanley Lancon and David Lancon.
