New Iberia – Funeral services will be conducted for Gara Theresa Mae Manuel Anderson, 76, on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at 2:00 PM at St. Peters Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Melancon officating. Burial will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 17, 2018, from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and resume on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at 9:00 AM until 1:30 PM. A rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Friday at 6:30 PM by the Carmelites.
A native of Ville Platte and a resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Anderson passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at 1:17 PM at St. Joseph Hospice / The Carpenter House in Lafayette.
She was an Iberia Parish teacher for 15 years, tour guide at Jefferson Island where she spoke French with many tourists and worked at the Rosary House where she enjoyed helping her customers. She was a Parishioner of St. Peters Catholic Church and a member of the choir where she said she sang better with them than alone. She served as a reader, a Eucharistic Minister, a Catechism Teacher and held many other positions. She was a Carmelite and was in Come Lord Jesus. Her and Father Connelly Bertrand started many Come Lord Jesus groups in many surrounding areas. She was involved in many organizations through the years, Cub Scout Leader, Home Demonstration Club, Business Women of America, Garden Club, Spanish Table and French Table.
Her hobbies were praying, singing, dancing and laughing. She enjoyed learning new languages, French was her number un language of choice.
Her claim to fame was being one of the first majorettes of Ville Platte High School to twirl two fire batons at one time.
She will be back to playing her Wahoo and Rummy card game with her longlife friends Verline Mayea and Doris Jumonville.
She is survived by her children, Benjamin “Chip” Anderson, III of Lafayette, Rebecca Provost and her husband Braxton Provost of Texas and Mary “Libby” Clostio and her husband Corey Clostio of Youngsville; her grandchildren, Brandon Anderson, Kathleen Helms and her husband Tyler Helms of WA, Justin Gajan and his wife Susie Gajan of FL, Courtney Marcum and her husband Anthony Marcum of SC, Tyler Gajan and Ryan Gajan, Payton Clostio, Morgan Clostio, Dylan Clostio all of Youngsville; her great grandchildren, Addison “Addie” McJimsey, Emmett Helms, Juliet Gajan and Steffan Gajan; her brother, Tom Manuel; her brother-in-law, Harold Dupre, her sister-in-law, Lil Manuel and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her only love, Benjamin Anderson, Jr.; her son, Samuel “Sam” Anderson, her daughter, Miriam Anderson; her parents, Leo and Lelma Manuel; her sister, Athalie Dupre and her brothers, Curtis, Daryl and Paul Manuel.
Pallbearers will be Braxton Provost, Brandon Anderson, Justin Gajan, Tyler Gajan, Ryan Gajan and Corey Clostio.
Honorary pallbearers will be, Dylan Clostio, Steffan Gajan and Emmett Helms.
A special thanks to St. Joseph Hospice / Carpenter House for giving such good care to our Mom.
She would say to LOVE ONE ANOTHER as I have Loved you.

must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one
another”.
