Tommy J. Viator, Sr.

Lydia – Funeral services will be conducted for Tommy J. Viator, Sr., 65, at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 26, 2018, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Msgr. Jace Eskind officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Nicholas Mausoleum in Patoutville  with Military Honors conducted by the New Iberia Veterans Honor Guard.

Visitation will be on Sunday, November 25, 2018, from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM and resume on Monday, November 26, 2018, at 9:00 AM until 1:15 PM. A rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Sunday by the Men’s Rosary Group at 7:00 PM.

A native of New Iberia and a resident of Lydia, Mr. Viator passed away on Thursday, November 22, 2018, at 9:06 AM at his residence.

Born and raised on his family’s sugar cane farm, he enjoyed traveling, camping, going on cruises and his biggest hobby was cutting his lawn. He was known as “Big T” and would meet with Morton Salt Retirees for coffee every morning at Hebert’s Mini Mart in Lydia. He was a longtime employee and retired from Morton Salt. He was an active member of the Lydia Cancer Association.

He served in the Louisiana Army National Guard and was a member and 2nd Vice Commander of the American Legion Post 365 in Lydia.

He dearly loved his wife, children and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cathy Melancon Viator of Lydia; his mother, Rita Mae Fremin Viator of St. Martinville; his children, Tommy J. Viator, Jr. and his wife Tina of New Iberia, Jodi Segura and her husband Shane and Nicole Rentrop and her husband Jonathan all of Lydia; his brother, Howard Viator, Jr. and his wife Caroline of Cade; his sisters, Annette Martin and her husband Mitch of Breaux Bridge and Michelle Broussard and her husband David of St. Martinville and his grandchildren, Stephanie Viator, Abigail Segura, Addison Segura, Penelope Rentrop, Alex Segura and Piper Rentrop.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Viator, Sr.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Viator, Jr., Shane Segura, Jonathan Rentrop, Jimmy Eskind, Russell Viator, David Broussard, Clay Schexnayder and Dusty Viator.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Segura, Steve Marcotte, Luke Broussard and Sydney Schexnayder.

The family would like to thank Julie and the staff of Heart of Hospice and Tre’, Jason and Jeff with Hanger Prosthesis.
