Irene Roberts, 86, of New Iberia passed away on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 3:30 PM with her daughter and granddaughter by her side. Mrs. Roberts was born on April 26, 1932 in Kaplan, Louisiana. She was the daughter of a farmer and a homemaker. She had many siblings that she loved and enjoyed spending time with. As a teenager, she decided to move to Lake Charles with her favorite cousin, Amy. There she began working as a waitress in Muller’s Department store where she met the love of her life, Donald Roberts. His job caused them to move around the country a bit. They lived in Pensacola, where their eldest son was born; Tularosa, New Mexico, where they had they had their 2 youngest children; Salinas, California where they resided for 18 years; and finally, they retired to New Iberia where they remained until their passing. Mrs. Roberts had a great love for family. She devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Affectionately known as “Nanny”, Mrs. Roberts was the best cook and housekeeper you ever met. She loved having company over for coffee in the afternoon and Sunday dinner after church. Whether it was tending to her flowers, watching her shows, or making a grandchild’s favorite meal, she exemplified what it meant to show love through actions. Mrs. Roberts left behind a legacy of service, faith, and family that will be loved, honored, and cherished forever.
