New Iberia – Funeral services will be conducted for Richard Darceno Armand, 93, at 11:30 AM on Friday, December 28, 2018, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church with Father Ed Degeyter officiating. Burial will follow in the Holy Family Mausoleum with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and the Iberia Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 28, 2018, from 8:30 AM until 11:00 AM and a rosary will be prayed by the Men’s Rosary Group at 10:00 AM.
A native of Cottonport and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Armand passed away on Monday, December 24, 2018, at 2:47 PM at his residence.
He had a 20 year career in the US Navy and retired in 1962 and served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. After his military retirement he went on to U. S. L. and earned his Masters Degree in Education and was employed with the Iberia Parish School Board for 20 years and retired in 1983 as Principal. With his strong vocation in education he then went back to the classroom and taught at St. Joseph School in Jeanerette.
A Devoted Catholic, he was a member of the V. F. W. Post 1982, an avid Saints Football Fan.
His survived by his sons, Michael E. Armand and his wife Shirley and Russell D. Armand and his wife Cynthia all of New Iberia; his sister, Eloise Rasch of Texas; his grandchildren, Jared Breaux, Jennifer Armand, Robert Armand, Ricky Armand, Sr., Eugene Armand and Ethan Armand and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Georgia Hawthorne Armand; his parents, Robert J. Armand and Annette Gremillion Armand; his son, Lawrence J. Armand; his grandson, Elliot Armand and eight siblings.
Pallbearers will be Eugene Armand, Ethan Armand, Carl Armand, Douglas Armand, Ricky Armand, Jr. and Randy Melancon.
Honorary pallbearer will be Manny Armand.
