Haruko “Kay” Harvison, 83, was given her angel’s wings on January 16, 2019, with her family by her side at her home in New Iberia, Louisiana.

Haruko was born on March 15, 1935, in Kagoshima-ken, Japan and was the fourth of six children.  Her family came from a long line of Samurai lineage and her family can trace their Coat of Arms back to the 14th century to the Samurai Kusunoki Masahige.

Upon her marriage to her husband Robert, Haruko and her son, David (Yoshi), moved from Okinawa, Japan to New Iberia in April 1970.   She thoroughly enjoyed her position as the Supreme Supervisor of Household Management throughout her life until her passing.

Her interests included spending time with her family (especially her grandchildren who hung the moon and the stars in her eyes), gardening, traveling, cooking, crocheting, and eating seafood.  She LOVED her crawfish and crabs – poo yie!

Haruko loved serving the Lord and read her Bible 98 times (yes, 98 times!). She attended church services regularly while she was still able to do so.  She helped each year with the Vacation Bible School Program so that the children could learn about Christ. She served on various committees, most notably the bereavement committee. This was a ministry in itself, which touched the lives of so many. Her love of cooking helped comfort so many friends, church family members and even strangers.

She was proud to become an American citizen in August 2005 and proudly raised the United States flag daily in front of her home. She always exercised her right to vote in any election.

Haruko is survived by her husband, Robert Harvison of New Iberia; brother, Tomihisa Kawauchi of Japan; 3 children and their spouses, David and Deana Harvison of Atlanta, Angela and Brent Louviere of New Iberia, Connie Harvison and her partner Amy Ruff of Portland, Oregon; and 4 grandchildren, Tristen and Berkly Louviere and Eli and Lily Browder, and her brothers and sisters in law, Jerry and Linda Harvison of Arkansas and Randy and Melanie Harvison of New Iberia.

She is also survived by the many people that loved her for her sharp wit, humor, great cooking, her caring heart and her limitless generosity.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nomasa and Kako Kawauchi.

Pallbearers will be Tristen Louviere, Berkly Louviere, George Stokes, James Romero, Harry Hebert and Calvin Bourque.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Harvison, Brent Louviere and Amy Ruff.
